10 Most Common AC Repair Calls

Your air conditioner can run into a lot of problems, but it’s running perfectly about 99% of the time. Well, we’re here to help with that other 1%. If you need air conditioning repair in Rio Rancho, NM, it could be for one or more of the reasons on this list. Let’s take a look.

Our List

Here’s a list of some common AC repairs.

  • Clogged Filter: The air filter on your air conditioner needs to be unobstructed so that air can flow through freely. If it doesn’t, you run into a whole slew of issues. You can do this part–replace the air filter every 30-60 days, depending on use, and you’ll be able to minimize the stress that your AC endures all while keeping your air quality on point.
  • Replace Old Ductwork: Ductwork doesn’t need to be checked as often as other parts of your AC. It’s not part of an annual maintenance tune-up. But when air ducts run into problems, it’s pretty apparent.
  • Fan Problems: The fan in your air conditioner can stop working, but the rest of your AC still fires up just fine. That means the fan’s sensor is damaged or the fan itself has gone out.
  • Broken Thermostat: It’s not uncommon to replace your thermostat before you replace your air conditioning unit. Your thermostat communicates the current temperature of your home with your air conditioner, so when it’s not doing that properly, it needs to be replaced.
  • Clogged Condensate Drain Line: Your air conditioner pulls condensation out of the air, but it doesn’t just make it vanish–it sends it through a condensate drain line that pulls the water outside of your air conditioner cabinet and away from your home. If this is clogged with debris or mildew, it can cause a back-up.
  • Coils Are Done for: The coils in your air conditioner are integral, but unfortunately, they’re not something you can DIY fix.
  • Refrigerant Leak: If there’s a refrigerant leak, your AC can actually freeze and stop working. It sounds silly because less refrigerant should prevent that, but it changes the way refrigerants work inside the system. These can also be highly dangerous, so it’s always best to call a professional in this case.
  • Blown Fuses: Your AC can overheat, and even though that’s ironic, it can cause a fuse to blow. That fuse will need to be replaced before your AC can continue working properly.
  • Dead Compressor: Compressors are pricey components to replace. They can break without warning, which is why annual maintenance is key to preventing this from happening.
  • The Contactor is Gone: Your compressor has a contactor that supplies the electrical connection it needs to run. If this gives out on you, that compressor simply can’t receive power anymore.
